T2 for Education offers touring professional performances, professional development for educators, an in-school literacy intervention program, and deeply discounted student performances in the regular season.
Arkansas Schools Tour
TheatreSquared's Arkansas Schools Tour is designed to bring live theatre and hands-on workshops to Arkansas high schools, with a particular focus on communities that lack access to the arts and arts-based curricula. Through the tour, students in grades 7-12 experience a 45-minute performance and immersive in-school workshops led by T2’s professional artists. For many, it represents a first experience with professional theatre and theatre-based learning techniques. The program is offered at no cost to participating schools.
The tour aims to reach more than 70 high schools and 18,000 students and their teachers throughout Arkansas.
Lead partners for TheatreSquared's Arkansas Schools Tour include the Arkansas Arts Council, the Windgate Charitable Foundation, and the Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation.
TheatreSquared is actively seeking to expand the Arkansas Schools Tour to additional high schools and junior highs throughout the state, at no cost to participants. If you are interested involving your class or school, please email Jordan Haynes, Learning Programs Manager.
Each summer, the Theatre offers the T2 Professional Development Institute, conferring up to 24 hours of Arkansas professional development units. The institute is an immersive series of workshops, led by professional artists and pedagogy experts, on applying drama-based teaching across the curriculum. Teachers from multiple disciplines will learn and share strategies to bring theatre techniques to the classroom, promoting active learning that engages students of all backgrounds.
Registration is now open for the Summer 2019 T2PDI, taking place July 1-3, at our brand-new 50,000-square-foot theatre in Fayetteville.
Word/Play Literacy Initiative
In 2010, funded by a two-year, $25,000 seed grant from Fayetteville Community Foundation’s Happy Hollow Fund, T2 inaugurated a partnership with Fayetteville High School’s literacy intervention program for sophomores. T2 staff, FHS educators and Dr. David Jolliffe, Brown Chair of English Literacy at the University of Arkansas, designed a semester-long playwriting curriculum called “Word/Play” to help excite students about writing and reading aloud. T2 teaching artists led six in-school workshops scheduled throughout the semester, and professional actors visited the school to perform an original 45-minute work designed to be informative, fun and engaging. As the final component of the project, students worked collaboratively in class to write and rehearse their own ten-minute plays, and traveled to the theatre to perform them for an audience of family and peers.
In 2011, with the support of the Arkansas Arts Council, TheatreSquared launched a partnership with seven schools in the Arkansas Delta Region—including Augusta, Wynne, McCrory, Brinkley, Newport, Bald Knob and Riverview high schools—to create a comprehensive and flexible Word/Play Workbook for educators, with the goal of integrating the new curriculum into English classrooms in the region in 2012. In 2013, the theatre plans to extend its partnership with the Arts Council to adapt the Word/Play Workbook for use in ESOL, or English for Speakers of Other Languages, classrooms in Northwest Arkansas, beginning with Springdale High School.
TheatreSquared is actively seeking to expand the Word/Play program to additional high schools throughout the state. If you are interested involving your class or school, please email Morgan Hicks, Director of Education and Program Development.
TheatreSquared offers groups of junior high and high school students special discounted pricing for student tickets depending on the size of a group. Student group prices apply to the following performances:
Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 2:00 p.m.; Sundays, 2:00 p.m.
Special weekday matinee performances for field trips may also be scheduled upon request for groups of 75 students or more. The Studio Theatre’s maximum capacity is 175 seats.
Teachers will receive lesson plans and classroom handouts use to accompany student performances.
Please contact Jordan Haynes, Learning Programs Manager to schedule a student performance.
Reservations for student groups can be made at any time, but T2 recommends that larger groups be reserved well in advance to assure availability. Requests for dedicated weekday student matinees must be made at least two months in advance of the requested performance time. Schools and educators may make a reservation by contacting Jordan Haynes, Learning Programs Manager. A reservation is not final until a contract has been signed and a 25% deposit received.
25% of the total cost will be due as a deposit no later than two weeks after a phone reservation has been made and a contract received in the mail. The balance (75%) is due three weeks prior to the performance. Payments must be made in a single sum with credit card, check, or cash (in person). Separate checks from individual students are not accepted.
Once a contract has been signed for a performance, it is a final sale. To avoid cancellations, please check your school calendar for test dates, holidays, report card pick-up dates, special activities, etc. before making your reservation.
T2 offers one complimentary chaperone ticket per 10 students; additional chaperones may attend at the reduced price ticket rate. Adult chaperones are responsible for ensuring that their students’ conduct is appropriate during their visit to the theatre.
Student Group Tickets
Special weekday matinee performances for field trips may also be scheduled upon request for groups of 100 students or more.
Subsidized tickets are also available during regular season performances. Through charitable sponsorships and individual support, TheatreSquared is able to offer groups of junior high and high school students deeply subsidized single ticket prices — discounted up to 75% from single ticket prices. Student group prices apply to the following performances:
Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 2:00 p.m.; Sundays, 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
With each production, TheatreSquared offers free teacher workshops and complimentary teaching materials to extend the experience beyond the theatre and into the classroom. Teachers will receive lesson plans and classroom handouts.
TheatreSquared offers in-school student workshops led by professional artists. Potential funding for these programs is made possible by the Arkansas Arts Council. To schedule an in-school Residency, please contact Jordan Haynes, Learning Programs Manager.
